Just now, FreeDOS has released version 1.2 of their free and open source Disk Operating System! It doesn't seem to have any major new features, especially what DOS gaming is concerned, but hopefully game compatibility has improved.
This is a video review with the view of using FreeDOS as a MS-DOS replacement for playing classic DOS games on a retro gaming PC. I have tested a lot of games and will talk about any issues I encountered. I also cover the installation process, what version to download and more.
Enjoy this video!

Actually, I couldn't get C&C to run on FreeDOS 1.2, could anyone of you? DOS4GW is going to fail with a message about "missing external references", so propably a library is missing. Question is just, which?

Hey Ya!
Had another look at it and issue's, I'd guess, missing Insert/Eject Notification in Ahci.sys from HP. C&C Install works fine with Ahcicd.sys from R. Loew and Eltorito.sys from Syslinux Project. By the way, the game itself runs with Ahci.sys, too, when already installed. Would've loved to also test new Ahcicd.dll, yet it failed to load on my machine.
